Green-Veined White

 

Although often mistaken with the small white, closer inspection reveals a delicate butterfly with conspicuous dark 'veins' on the yellow underside of the hindwings. On their uppersides, females have more black markings than the males. There are usually two, sometimes three, generations each year.

 

Wingspan: 40-52mm

On the wing: Mid-April to late September

Foodplant: A range of wild crucifers including garlic mustard and cuckooflower
