Speckled Wood

 

An attractive woodland butterfly with its cream-on-chocolate wings making it easy to identify. The females are larger than the males and have larger cream patches.

 

Wingspan: male 46-52mm and female 48-56mm

On the wing: late March to mid October

Foodplant: a variety of grasses
